The steel industry operates at some of the highest temperatures of all industrial processes and the whole supply chain involves multiple cycles of heating and cooling.
Temperature plays an important role in the process. In the picture above we’ve indicated where we think Thermagy could add value in the steel manufacturing process:
E.g. there are many spots in the steel process where high temperature steel is transported and where there are plenty of opportunities for Thermagy panels to harvest their heat. Think of the casting and milling processes.
We have several discussions ongoing in the steel industry about pre-feasibility studies and pilots in which we’re discussing the Thermagy hot spots to make maximum use of Thermagy’s value. A first Thermagy pilot is now running at Tata Steel IJmuiden, a second pilot is taking place at the Dutch branches of St. Gobain, Ardagh, Libbey and O-I that are united in the Dutch Association of the Glass Industry (VNG).
